The 45-year-old golfer – who won his 13th PGA Tour title at the Farmers Insurance Open recently – doesn’t think he can push himself any harder than he already does so has learned to expect that he’ll have some event where he isn’t “great” on the green.
Asked how much harder it is to access his best golf now than it was 15 years ago, he told Golf Monthly magazine: “I don’t think I can work much harder – I think I just need to be patient with myself when the weeks slip by that aren’t great and know it’s still there.
“I’m pretty good at gearing up for the weeks where I want to play well and I think I have the experience to do that.
“Obviously I’d love to play well every week, but if I can find a way to hone in on the weeks that I really want to play well in, that would be enough for me to chase down some of the goals I have left in my career.”
And Justin is hopeful he isn’t too “far away” from fulfilling some long-held dreams.
He said: “The Majors are where I have my attention, for sure.
“I’ve achieved a lot in the game, but I’ve achieved a lot of it just once.
“So I’ll take multiple of anything I’ve achieved, for sure.
“But if I look at my career, I’ve been really close at The Open and The Masters.
“The dream of winning all four has obviously been the ultimate goal since childhood.
“It seems a long way off, but if you think about some of the results I’ve had in the last year or 18 months, I’m not that far away. So I may as well keep believing.”
