Mary Earps hopes to have 'a few more years' to play

Mary Earps hopes to keep playing for “a few more years”.

The 32-year-old Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper may have called time on her international career with England, but she isn’t planning on hanging up her gloves entirely for some time.

She told Telegraph Sport: “I want to keep playing for as long as I possibly can, as long as this mind and body allows. Hopefully I’ve got a few more years in me. I would really like that.”

When she does retire, Mary is keen to continue working in sport but doesn’t see coaching in her future right now.

She added: “I want to stay in women’s sport for quite a while, I think more on the business side. Everyone asks me: ‘Are you going to go into coaching?’ I don’t think that’s really for me, but I don’t know. I’ll see what the future holds.

“I think the game changes so quickly. You have no idea what’s going to align at what times, but my priority for now is playing as long as I possibly can because it’s a pretty great job to have.”

Mary isn’t afraid to stand up for what she thinks is right and while her heart-on-sleeve mentality can be her “superpower”, it can also cause her problems too.

She admitted: “It’s my superpower in a lot of ways because I think it engages people. I’m so used to advocating for myself, advocating for women, you get in that constant state of advocate, and I think it engages people but, equally, it’s my kryptonite because it can affect my decision-making.”
