Jack Draper ruled out of French Open in latest injury blow

Jack Draper will miss the French Open with a knee injury.

The British tennis ace has announced that he has been ruled out of the Grand Slam at Roland Garros with a knee tendon injury that also places his participation at Wimbledon in doubt.

It marks yet another injury setback for Draper, who has managed just nine matches in five tournaments since returning from a long-term arm injury in February.

He wrote on his Instagram Story: "My knee is on the mend and I've started back hitting balls but unfortunately I have been advised not to play Roland Garros.

"As gutting as it is to miss another Slam, the advice is not to rush straight back into playing five-set tennis on clay.

"Off the back of the arm injury I sustained last year, I've been restricted with my training and by giving myself the time to heal and build, I can be the player I want to be out there once again. See you soon!"

Draper joins Carlos Alcaraz in missing the Paris event through injury and is set to drop outside the top 100 of the world rankings when he returns to the court.

The former world number four was ruled out for nearly eight months last year with a "complex" arm injury and admits that not being able to compete took its toll on him mentally.

Draper told Sky Sports earlier this year: "I've really missed competing. It's been a long time, but I've learned a lot of things. It's been a very difficult injury for me, but it's good to be back here.

"It's one thing staying afloat because we're used to being 100 miles an hour on the road, and then all of that gets taken away from you, the buzz of competing. You're kind of like in a hole and you need to get yourself out of that hole somehow, especially with a long injury. But that's where you've got to stay strong, you've got to keep on going."
