Berahino rejects overweight tag

The 23-year-old has recently been forced to train with the academy players after being deemed not fit to enough to work with the first-team squad, the striker having supposedly put on weight.

The club have since allowed the striker to train with the first-team squad once again but assistant manager Dave Kemp claims he will not be considered for selection for the time being as he is still not fit.

Reports contradicting the club's claims have now emerged though, with sources close to Berahino claiming he was banished from the senior squad after refusing to even discuss a new contract, denying he has been put on a fitness regime.

Berahino's current deal expires at the end of the season and negotiations over an extension have made very little progress over the last 18 months, the former England Under-21 international refusing to even look at the latest offer from the club.

West Brom have denied they are punishing Berahino for not returning to the negotiating table but the whole episode appears to have further soured relations between the two parties.
