Toffees look to secure Idrissa Gueye

Everton are reported to have opened talks with midfielder Idrissa Gueye in an effort to get him tied down to a new deal.

The Toffees may have got the season off to a disappointing start but the midfielder has still impressed with his relentless work rate in the middle of the park and rivals clubs are taking notice.

The 27-year-old was snapped up from Aston Villa for a bargain £6.8 million the summer before last and Blues boss Ronald Koeman is keen to secure his future.

Everton have already lost Romelu Lukaku and could also lose Ross Barkley on a free transfer as the midfielder's contract ticks down, and Koeman wants to avoid a similar situation with Gueye.

Talks are now reported to be in the pipeline with the Senegal international who has already been heavily linked with a move to Premier League rivals Arsenal.
