Callum Wilson ready to shine in Premier League

Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson insists he is ready to play in the Premier League as he continues to return to full fitness.

The 25-year-old scored a penalty on Tuesday night as he made his first start for almost nine months in his side's Carabao Cup win over Middlesbrough.

He helped the Cherries book their place in the quarter-finals after a 3-1 win, as he also picked up an assist for Benik Afobe's first goal of the season.

Wilson has played in the club's Central League campaign in an attempt to rebuild his fitness after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

After proving his fitness, he is adamant a Premier League start is not too far away.

He told the Daily Echo: "First and foremost, I am back playing well, getting through games successfully and putting myself in the manager's mind for selection in the Premier League.

"It's about getting back to focusing on the league and, on a personal note, trying to get back into that team.

"I don't just want to play in cup matches, I want to work hard and open my Premier League account for the season."
