James Haskell dropped for autumn series

England boss Eddie Jones says James Haskell has not been playing well enough to be selected ahead of the autumn internationals.

The Wasps back-rower was a notable absentee when the 34-man squad was announced on Thursday, with Exeter Chiefs back-row Sam Simmonds receiving his first call-up.

Jones has revealed he has spoken with the 32-year-old Haskell and says the door is still open for the forward to work his way back into the Red Rose squad.

"I had a good chat to Haskell on Saturday," said Jones.

"At the moment he's just not playing well enough, but the door isn't shut to him. He's been a great servant to English rugby and I'm sure he can regain his form."

Meanwhile, Sale Sharks winger Denny Solomona, who was dropped from one of England's recent camps for an alleged alcohol related incident, has made the cut for the squad.

Harlequins prop Joe Marler misses out after he was suspended for the first two Tests against Argentina and Australia, with the first encounter against the Pumas coming on November 11.
