Warren Gatland names Scarlet-heavy side for Scots clash

Wales head coach Warren Gatland has named 10 Scarlets players in his starting line-up for their Six Nations opener against Scotland.

Worcester wing Josh Adams, making his Wales debut on Saturday, is the only non-Scarlet in the Welsh back-line, which is missing the likes of Rhys Webb, Dan Biggar, Liam Williams and George North.

Fly-half Rhys Patchell has been handed the number 10 jersey to replace the injured Biggar and he is joined in the half-backs by Gareth Davies.

Dragons' Cory Hill joins skipper Alun Wyn Jones at lock, while Cardiff Blues' Josh Navidi will play alongside Aaron Shingler and Ross Moriarty in the back row.

Despite their injuries, Wales will be looking to maintain their impressive record against the Scots in Cardiff, having not lost on home soil against the men in blue since 2002.

Wales XV: Leigh Halfpenny (Scarlets); Josh Adams (Worcester), Scott Williams (Scarlets), Hadleigh Parkes (Scarlets), Steff Evans (Scarlets); Rhys Patchell (Scarlets), Gareth Davies (Scarlets); Rob Evans (Scarlets), Ken Owens (Scarlets), Samson Lee (Scarlets), Cory Hill (Dragons), Alun Wyn Jones (Ospreys capt), Aaron Shingler (Scarlets), Josh Navidi (Cardiff Blues), Ross Moriarty (Gloucester).

Replacements: Elliot Dee (Dragons), Wyn Jones (Scarlets), Tomas Francis (Exeter Chiefs), Bradley Davies (Ospreys), Justin Tipuric (Ospreys), Aled Davies (Scarlets), Gareth Anscombe (Cardiff Blues), Owen Watkin (Ospreys).
