Mourinho is said to be growing increasingly frustrated by a lack on transfer activity at Old Trafford and declared as much on Sunday, saying he wants at least two more stars added to his squad before the start of the season.
One of those he would dearly love to be Maguire who is reportedly keen on a move but will not force Leicester City to sell him.
The former Hull player has become the hottest property of the summer following his world Cup exploits with England and United are desperate to land him.
They have already made contact with the Foxes over a move and are apparently ready to offer a massive £65 million for the player but Maguuire will not force the Foxes hand and they have no intention of selling. Following Riyad Mahrez's move to Manchester City they do not want to see any more stars leave.
Foxes boss Claude Puel reiterated his determination to keep hold of the 25-year-old and team-mate Kasper Schmeichel.
"I think we can keep them. We cannot lose players just a few days before the beginning of the season," he said.
Meanwhile Mourinho says if they do not land any of their targets they will continue to work with what they have.
On signing new players , he said: "If it is possible good, if it is not possible we keep fighting and working and believing in the players that we have."
