Defender linked with Foxes switch

Leicester City boss Claude Puel wants to sign defender Chris Mepham from Brentford but will need to come up with at least £15m.

The Foxes interest in the centre-half will spark fears that they are about to cash in on England star Harry Maguire who is wanted by Manchester United but they have been linked with Mepham for some time so the two things are not certain to be linked.

Brentford are very keen to keep hold of their star man in the face of interest from the Premier League with Bournemouth also said to keen.

The centre-half has four years left on his current contract so there is no immediate need on the part of his club to sell the player who made his Welsh debut back in March and interest could see his price rise to £20m.

The defender has been at the Bees since 2012 when he joined their Academy after he had been released by Chelsea.

Puel has already made a number of significant signings this summer with Jonny Evans, James Maddison, Ricardo Pereira, Danny Ward and Rachid Ghezzal joining the club.
