The German international looked set to leave the Allianz Arena before the deadline after being told by the Bavarians earlier in the summer that he was free to join another club if his valuation was met.
United were set to pounce, but following talks with new Bayern boss Niko Kovac, it seems as though the versatile star has had a change of heart and would prefer to stay where he is.
Boateng was told by Kovac that he figures in his plans for the forthcoming season and that is enough for him to turn down the Reds, with reports claiming he made a personal call to Jose Mourinho to tell him the news.
Speaking after the clash between the two sides at the weekend, Kovac said: "Regarding Jerome there is nothing new. Jerome played a really good match today when he came in. I am happy about him being with us again."
The news comes as another blow to Mourinho, who has so far failed to land Toby Alderweireld, Harry Maguire or Yerry Mina, with Thursday's 5pm deadline fast approaching.
