Man Utd players held meeting without Mourinho

Manchester United players held an inquest without manager Jose Mourinho following the dismal defeat last weekend at West Ham United.

Old Trafford insiders admitted the 3-1 reverse at the London Stadium was a particularly painful pill to swallow and a few home truths were spoken back at their Carrington training HQ on Monday (01.10.18), with Mourinho not present.

It is understood a number of players, including Luke Shaw, Juan Mata and Paul Pogba, all spoke and despite the ongoing issues and speculation behind the scenes, the squad remain firmly committed to turning around the poor run of results since the start of this season.

The Red Devils continued to stutter on Tuesday night (02.10.18) when they drew a Champions League blank at home against Spanish side Valencia.

United sources insist nothing should be read into Mourinho not being at the earlier team meeting, despite reports former Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane is the hot favourite to replace him if he is relieved of his duties in the coming weeks.

The Portuguese tactician is wanting his players to take more personal responsibility for their performances and actively encourages some creative tension within his camp to keep everyone on their toes.
