According to a former Turn 10 developer, the open-world racing title “crossed the two million mark on PS5 alone” just weeks after arriving on the platform in April.
In a since-amended post, they wrote on LinkedIn: “Created cross-platform feature designs enabling Forza Horizon 5 to sell two million units in one month on PS5 alone.”
This comes after Microsoft confirmed another round of layoffs across its publishers and developers - with Turn 10 being hit hard with redundancies alongside Call of Duty’s Raven Software, The Initiative and Rare.
Following the layoff announcement, former Turn 10 employee Fred Russell - who left the company in 2016 - claimed the Forza Motorsport series had been cancelled altogether.
He wrote on social media: “Turn 10 Studios has shuttered the Forza Motorsport space and the team is no more. A very sad day for one of the best car racing video games. I loved my time there.”
He added in a separate post: “The studio is open to support the Horizon side … shuttered the Forza Motorsport side only.”
Turn 10 has helmed the Forza Motorsport series since its debut in 2005, and the studio is said to have lost roughly 50 per cent of its workforce in Microsoft’s latest round of layoffs.
So far, it is understood that Microsoft has let go of 9,000 employees in the redundancy programme.
In total, Microsoft has let go of over 11,500 employees in the last 18 months.
