EA makes Battlefield layoffs despite successful launch

EA is making layoffs at Battlefield Studios despite the huge success of Battlefield 6.

Last year, the game broke franchise records and was the top selling game of 2025 in the United States, but the company is making some cuts, which will impact and unconfirmed number of employees from across the studio.

In a statement, EA told GameSpot: "We've made select changes within our Battlefield organization to better align our teams around what matters most to our community.

"Battlefield remains one of our biggest priorities, and we're continuing to invest in the franchise, guided by player feedback and insights from Battlefield Labs."

As reported by IGN, EA has referred to the layoffs as a "realignment", while all four studios under the Battlefield Studios banner - which includes DICE, Criterion Games, Ripple Effect Studio and Motive Studio - will remain open.

The game did lose a significant number of players after launch, but the team hoped season two - which was delayed for fine tuning - would help turn things around.

Last month, producer Phil Girette told TechRadar: "We launched Battlefield 6 and we were super happy to have had a smooth launch for once.

"And then going into Season 1, I think the key thing there because, [...] there were a lot of people spending a lot of time playing it, what kind of broke that pace is the extension we did of Season 1."

He insisted the delay for season two was needed for "further polish", and Girette insisted the update itself is "really strong", and well placed as a "foundation going forward" for the game.

He added: "This is the level we need to hit. We hope that the players think the same, but I think this is going to be the strongest season [yet]."

It hasn't been the easiest time for the team, who lost top Battlefield boss Vince Zampella in December when he died in a car crash.

Battlefield 6 producer Alexia Christofi told GameSpot at he time: "[Zampella] was always a risk-taker and he kind of put that into us.

"Nothing about his legacy is gonna be lost from us, because now it's about making him proud.

"He's always kind of given us autonomy to do what we think is best in the game and we were super lucky to have his leadership when we did. And it won't be lost, and we'll carry it forward for sure."
