Duolingo finally reveals 'most requested feature' - but not for long

Duolingo is letting users regain lost streaks over the next few weeks.

The hugely popular language learning app has introduced a new feature fans have been clamouring for, by answering "one of the most consistent requests" the company gets from users.

From June 1, to celebrate Duolingo's 15th anniversary, users who previously had a streak of 30 days or more can get it back by completing three lessons in one sitting.

Streaks are built by using the app every day, but the streak disappears if you skip a day.

So far, the only ways round this have been to buy a "streak freeze" before missing a lesson, or a "streak repair" after losing the streak.

Chief product officer Cem Kansu thinks the company have made the right choice introducing this free way to regain their lost streaks.

However, the feature will only run for the month of June, meaning users have just 30 days to take advantage.

Duolingo has announced other updates from June 1, including expanded Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) content in nine languages, and a score that shows a user's progress through standards-aligned curriculum.

Also included are new, free experiences, ranging from Speaking Adventures featuring real-life scenarios, a practice hub to go back over past lessons, vocab flashcards, and Explain My Answer to get an idea of where you went wrong.

Meanwhile, the company will also be offering free chess and maths courses.
