Sony announces 4K phone

Sony has announced plans for a phone with a 4K resolution.

The technology giants have revealed they are working on the XZ2 Premium, their latest mobile phone which will support stunning 4K resolution display, as well as being the first Sony phone to come with a dual-lens camera system, which the company promises makes a massive improvement on the quality of the final picture.

The Sony XZ2 Premium will be launched in Summer 2018 almost a year after the XZ Premium was released.

According to Gizmodo, the phone will display its 4K resolution on a 5.8-inch display, alongside 6GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, microSD expansion, a 13MP front camera, a dual-lens rear camera (19MP in colour and 12MP black and white), a 3,540 mAh battery, wireless charing, and IP65/68 dust and water resistance.

However, Sony fans in the UK looking to get their hands on this brand new model may be disappointed, as the company have stated that there are "no plans" to bring the phone to our shores.

A spokesperson told TechRadar: "Given the strength of the existing Xperia XZ range, specifically the XZ2, XZ2 Compact, and XZ Premium, there are currently no plans for widespread ranging of the handset [XZ2 Premium] in the UK and Ireland.

"This decision will be reviewed nearer to retail launch in summer 2018."

The company doesn't discount buying an imported model of the XZ2 from elsewhere if they stick with their decision to keep it off the UK market, however that option is likely to come with a huge price hike.
