Bob Marley biopic expected to increase tourism in Jamaica

'Bob Marley: One Love' is expected to provide Jamaica with a tourism boost.

The biopic - which tells the story of the late reggae legend - had its world premiere at at the Carib 5 in Kingston, Jamaica earlier this year and now it is thought that the film could increase tourism numbers to the singer's home country.

Minister of Tourism, Hon Edmund Bartlett, said: "We had Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, as well as many other celebrities at the Jamaica premiere, garnering worldwide attention. We also saw Brad Pitt and [other] celebrities at the Los Angeles premiere… another massive boost for Jamaica and Jamaica’s tourism. The movie has brought a lot of attention to our country and will inspire people from all over the world… as fans… and as visitors to experience our culture."

Meanwhile, Donovan White, the Jamaica Tourist Board's director of tourism, said during a media event that the investment for the country had been "extremely positive" in recent months and noted that 15,000 hotel rooms are expected to open on the island over the next five to seven years.

He said: "The investment appetite for Jamaica is extremely positive. As you add more rooms and you add more people and more flights, you have to continue to review your airport processes. We have to continue to train and develop our workforce to meet that demand."
