Stargazing at Nujuma connects Saudi Arabia travellers with science, culture and sustainability

Holidaymakers staying at Nujuma in Saudi Arabia, can enjoy nightly stargazing sessions led by a resident astronomer.

The Ritz-Carlton Reserve invites guests to explore Arabian traditions and modern science under some of the clearest skies in the world, under the guidance of Habib Bafeil, who talks groups through constellations and their cultural meanings, blending celestial navigation, folklore and astrophysics.

Habib said: "It all started with a happy accident. I earned my bachelor’s degree in astrophysics, but I eventually found myself drawn to hospitality where I could bring science to people in a meaningful, personal way.

"Science gives us answers, but storytelling gives us meaning. My hope is that guests leave not only amazed by what they’ve seen, but inspired by what they’ve felt."

Nujuma is the first Ritz-Carlton Reserve in Saudi Arabia and one of only a handful worldwide. With 65 private villas across a secluded island in the Blue Hole cluster, the property emphasises barefoot elegance alongside experiences designed to restore and reconnect. Activities range from snorkelling on coral reefs to yoga, cultural workshops and wellness retreats.

The Conservation House anchors this ethos by bringing together astronomers, marine biologists, artisans and storytellers to share knowledge with guests. Sustainability is also central to the resort’s identity. Nujuma has achieved LEED Platinum certification, operating fully on renewable solar energy, eliminating single-use plastics and recycling water to support local flora.

The resort, alongside Red Sea Global and its sister property The St. Regis Red Sea Resort, has planted 190,000 mangroves, protected turtle nesting areas and adopted reef-safe practices. Dining is equally tied to its surroundings, with seafood, citrus, dates and olives sourced from local farms in Tabuk.
