Mikel Arteta has renewed hope in Arsenal's Premier League title push

Mikel Arteta says that Arsenal "are right there" in the Premier League title race.

The Gunners cut the gap to league leaders Liverpool to just two points after a 3-1 win over the Reds on Sunday (04.02.24) and Arteta praised his team for recapturing "consistency" after a challenging festive period that saw them slip off the pace in the title battle.

The Arsenal boss told BBC Radio 5 Live: "We are right there and that's where we want to be. We're really consistent again.

"That was more results than performances. We've been really consistent all season, if not you aren't where we are today.

"We take it game by game, the availability of the squad is going to be crucial.

"We have learned that from last season. Let's try to make that happen.

"It means a lot. Liverpool are an unbelievable team. They're probably the most in-form team in Europe."

Arsenal became the first team to beat the Reds domestically since Tottenham last September and Arteta thinks that the superb result should leave those connected with the club feeling "excited".

He said: "We have come so far and now it is about doing it consistently. Liverpool have done it for six to seven years.

"It gives us momentum and the way we have done it we are back on it - really excited."

Arteta hailed his players and Arsenal fans for carrying the team over the line at a joyous Emirates Stadium.

The Spanish coach said: "It was an extraordinary game. An incredible performance from the players and our people. That’s the best atmosphere I’ve seen all season. We demanded that.

"We had to go to a different level and connect it again to the demands that this league has. I think the players left absolutely everything."
