Richarlison reveals that therapy 'saved his life' as he encourages other players to seek help

Richarlison says that therapy "saved his life".

The Tottenham striker sought psychological help last year as he struggled both personally and professionally and has urged others to do the same because he has been able to "turn things around" after being at "rock bottom".

Richarlison said: "As a player who has an active voice, I tell people to seek help.

"We know how prejudiced people are when they say they're looking for [psychological] help. Thank god I'm not prejudiced about it any more.

"I talk about it because it saved my life. I was at rock bottom. Only players know how much pressure we're under, not only on the pitch but also off it."

The player has rediscovered his goalscoring touch for Spurs since his return from injury in December and is back in the Brazil squad for this weekend's friendly with England.

Richarlison said: "I'm back in the Premier League, helping my club.

"A few months ago, when I didn't get a call-up to the national team and said I will return, I worked hard during those days. I'm happy, and I've managed to turn things around."

Brazil head coach Dorival Junior has hired a team psychologist and Richarlison urged his national team colleagues to make use of the service.

He said: "I think the mental aspect is so important for a player, to not let things around you get in the way of your work on the pitch. It's what I've been doing. I have a psychologist now, and she's been helping me. I have sessions every week.

"I ask the players to open up to this possibility of having a therapist because it's so important. Once they start taking sessions they will understand what I mean. It really helps you on the pitch."
