Antoine Semenyo's faith is at the heart of 'everything'

Antoine Semenyo is “praying” he can play in the Champions League one day.

The Bournemouth striker’s Christian faith is at the heart of everything he does and while he feels “blessed” to have the career he has got, he hopes it will guide him on to bigger and better things.

He told Sorted magazine: “I do pinch myself quite a bit when I think about the journey I’ve had. And you know, you’ve got to embrace it. The good and the bad.

“I definitely feel blessed. I feel like God has put me in a situation where I belong.

“I just need to keep praying and then hopefully I can reach the elite levels of Champions League and go on from there.

“So I have to keep praying and keep going.

“[My faith] is everything. Honestly, I don’t know where I’d be without God.

“He’s right in the middle of everything, whether that’s football, whether that’s just at home, whether it’s going out just being grateful that I’m alive and healthy and able to do things with my family and friends.”

However, Antoine admitted his schedule means he doesn’t get to church as often as he’d like.

He said: “It’s hard because our manager likes active recovery. So after a game, we’ll be in on a Sunday recovering. We might be in for like two or three hours.

“So by the time I finish, church is done.

“I try to make sure I’m always reading and writing whenever I can.

“So that might not just be on a Sunday, it’ll be during the week or whenever I go on away games.

“I bring my Bible and I’m currently reading John. I’m picking up different notes and writing down how they relate to me and my life.

“I try to keep on top of that quite often and do it with my partner all the time.

“So, we sit together, pray together and write things down together.”
