Lionesses sympathise with fans over Euro 2025 costs

England’s Lionesses are helping to pay for their families to watch Euro 2025.

The tournament will take place in Switzerland next month, and the players are sympathetic to the burden placed on fans who want to attend the tournament because they will be helping their own loved ones with the high cost of living in the country.

Georgia Stanway told The Times newspaper: “My family can (travel out)...

“But I’m also aware that Switzerland is a very expensive country. Even just for flights and hotels, the cost of living is extremely high, so we understand the demand on fans.

“And I think that’s difficult for us as well because we want to help and support as much as possible, even with our own families. A lot of us are putting our hands in our pockets to make sure our families can get over there.

“We would love to see as many fans as possible and we want to thank them in advance because we know it’s not cheap.”

Ella Toone agreed she will also be helping her family with the costs of being in Switzerland.

She said: “I’ve heard it’s quite expensive. It’s one of the most expensive countries in the world. I think it will be a bit difficult for families who are staying out for the whole tournament, but I know I’ll always help my family be out there and make memories and make sure they’re eating.”

The FA is understood to be giving all 23 squad members equal financial support for family travel and accommodation. The amount matches the support offered during the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia and is on par with what England men’s players receive.

UEFA has introduced measures to help fans, including free public transport for match ticket holders and guidance on affordable accommodation.
