The 45-year-old golfer has enjoyed a glittering career since turning professional in 1999, including claiming victory in the 2017 Masters Tournament and he’s got faith he still has the skills to compete at the highest level.
He told Today’s Golfer magazine: “I have the belief that I can win another Major.
“I’ve proven to myself and to everyone that my game is still solid.
“It’s just a matter of keep believing in yourself and keep working hard.
“I definitely think that on any given week, if I get things going, I can contend and win.”
And the Spaniard is also hoping to secure a place on Europe’s Ryder Cup team.
He said:” The Ryder cup is obviously a big target for me.
“I’m a member of the Tour, I’m going to play my minimum number of tournaments this year, so obviously yes, that is one of the biggest goals for 2025. We’ll see what happens.
“There’s months left until the team is chosen. I just want to keep performing well, keep showing what I’m doing, and then we’ll see.”
But Sergio is “realistic” enough to know his game isn’t at the level it was in his younger years.
He said:” My game is maybe not quite to the level of where it was in the 2000s and 2010s, but it’s close.
“But I’m also realistic. I’m not 25 any more, I’m 45.
“So maybe the consistency level is a little bit harder to maintain than when I was younger – but I have been showing really good form for the past couple of years at least, and that’s something very positive.”
