Tom Brady questioned Wayne Rooney's 'work ethic' as Birmingham manager

Tom Brady has questioned former Birmingham manager Wayne Rooney's "work ethic".

The NFL icon became a minority owner of Blues following the US takeover of the club in 2023 and it has been revealed that he had reservations about the former England captain - who spent a disastrous 83 days in charge of the club before being sacked in January 2024.

Speaking in a new Amazon Prime documentary about the club, Brady said: "I'm a little worried about our head coach's [Rooney's] work ethic.

"I mean, I don't know, I don't have great instincts on that."

Birmingham ended up being relegated to League One at the end of the 2023-24 season and Brady branded the players as "lazy and entitled" following the demotion.

The seven-time Super Bowl champion said: "Well we've already changed the coach, so it's really the players because the coach doesn't go out there and put the ball in the goal.

"They were lazy, they were entitled and when you're lazy and entitled, you don't have much of a chance to succeed.

"We've got to change all the people that are associated with losing, so I think this summer there's going to be a lot of people gone."

Birmingham won promotion back to the Championship after spending heavily last term and Brady suggested that the club will need to keep splashing the cash if they are to compete with Wrexham - who are owned by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

He told The Sports Agents podcast: "We've got to [keep spending].

"We've got to keep up with one another. Wrexham have, I'd say, done an incredible job. I mean, you can't be anything but excited about what they've done for that club ... I'm so impressed by Wrexham.

"What they do on the pitch, off the pitch, and again, they're in a great position to succeed as well."
