Neymar in tears after biggest defeat of his career

Neymar broke down in tears after suffering the biggest defeat of his career on Sunday (17.08.25).

The 33-year-old Brazilian soccer star was devastated after Santos were beaten 6-0 by Vasco de Gama at home, leaving them just two points above the Serie A relegation zone.

According to the BBC, an emotional Neymar told reporters: “I'm ashamed. I'm totally disappointed with our performance.

“The fans have every right to protest, obviously without using violence ... but if they want to curse and insult, they're in their right. To sum up our attitude on the field, it was terrible.

“It's a feeling of extreme shame. I've never experienced this in my life. Unfortunately, it happened.

“The tears were from anger, from everything. Unfortunately, I can't help in every way. I think everyone today needs to go home and think about what they want to do. Anyway, it was total s***, that's the reality.”

Coach Cleber Xavier was sacked hours after the game as the club scrambles to revive the season.

Neymar joined Paris St-Germain from Barcelona for £200 million in 2017.

He signed with his boyhood club Santos in January after a disastrous 18-month spell at Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal, where he dealt with a number of injuries.

The previous heaviest loss of his career came in September 2015 when Barcelona were beaten 4-1 by Celta Vigo in LaLiga.
