The Belgium midfielder was forced to sit out again as the Clarets fought out a goalless draw with Manchester United at the weekend, but it looks as though he is close to making a comeback.
Dyche has revealed he came close to starting at Old Trafford, but decided it would be better if he trained hard as he is not quite up to speed with the Premier League.
“It would have been a risk and we considered it was too much for him,” said Dyche. “We felt it was better to give him four or five days’ hard training as I still think he is adapting to what the levels of the Premier League are.”
Dyche now has a decision to make over whether Defour will return to action against Crystal Palace on Saturday, while full-back Stephen Ward will be assessed after going off with a hamstring injury.
