The 24-year-old Portugal international midfielder has been linked with a move to Spurs following a disappointing year at Camp Nou following his £31.5million switch from Valencia in summer 2016.
Despite Ernesto Valverde coming in as Barca boss ahead of this season, Gomes has continued to struggle for action with just one La Liga start and six appearances from the substitutes' bench in all competitions so far.
It's being reported in Spain that the Catalans will allow Gomes to depart in the new year as the club looks to bring in funds to make another attempt at luring Brazilian playmaker Philippe Countino to the club from Liverpool.
Several clubs, including Manchester United, Juventus and Inter Milan have also been linked with Gomes, but it seems Spurs have attempted to steal a march on their rivals by speaking with the player's representatives to sound them out over a possible switch to the Londoners.
If Spurs are successful in a move for Gomes, the reports adds that they can expect to pay around £40million for his signature.
