Magpies in battle for Cenk Tosun

Newcastle United have a battle on their hands to land Besiktas star Cenk Tosun in January, with Wolfsburg thought to have made a bid.

The Turkey international has been attracting plenty of interest ahead of the next transfer window, with the Magpies and Crystal Palace in the Premier League thought to be monitoring his situation.

Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez is keen to bolster his attacking options at St James' Park and 26-year-old Tosun is thought to be a player high up on the Spaniard's wishlist.

However, reports from Tosun's native Turkey have suggested Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg have stolen a march on the north east outfit and have already submitted an offer in the region of £9m.

Newcastle may now be forced to step up their efforts to land Tosun, but with the club in the midst of a potential takeover they will have to be wary Wolfsburg don't beat them to the punch.
