Mike Ford tipped for Saints role

Former Bath boss Mike Ford has been linked with taking over the vacancy at Northampton Saints after the departure of Jim Mallinder.

The East Midlands outfit confirmed on Tuesday that Mallinder would be leaving his role as director of rugby with immediate effect, having enjoyed over a decade at Franklin's Gardens.

Northampton, who find themselves in 10th place in the Aviva Premiership table, have stated they will be scouring the globe for a replacement and former Bath and Toulon chief Ford has been linked with the position.

The 52-year-old is currently working in the United States, heading up the Dallas Griffins as they get set for Major League Rugby, however, reports have suggested he could be tempted by a short-term deal at the Saints to help the club avoid the drop from the Premiership this season.
