Sam Vokes eyes record finish

Burnley striker Sam Vokes is calling on his side for a big end to the season to ensure their highest finish in a campaign for 44 years.

Despite a poor run since December, where they have failed to pick up a single victory, the Clarets still sit in seventh place in the Premier League.

If they can maintain their position, it will be the club's best finish since the end of the 1973/74 season when they came home sixth.

Rather than looking over their shoulders at the chasing pack just a point behind them, Vokes says they are instead aiming to catch sixth-place Arsenal.

He told the Lancashire Telegraph: "The gaffer speaks about creating history and folklore a lot and that's important for us," Vokes said of the target of a highest finish in 44 years.

"Over the last few years we've achieved a lot here but to finish that high in the Premier League would be amazing for a club like Burnley and hopefully we can achieve that.

"We're constantly looking forward and looking at the team in front of us, we're not looking back. As the season has gone so far it's been important that we've pushed on and we've always looked above us.

"For us we're definitely looking at sixth place."
