Agent plays down possible Real departure for midfielder

Mateo Kovacic's agent says the midfielder does not want to leave Real Madrid at this time as he focuses on the World Cup.

The 24-year-old recently linked up with the Croatia squad ahead of this summer's tournament fresh from arguably his best season at the Bernabeu, becoming a regular in Zinedine Zidane's plans as he made 36 appearances, albeit only 10 of those coming from the start in La Liga.

The former Inter Milan midfielder, much like the majority of the squad, now faces an uncertain future following Zidane's shock resignation, a decision which is likely to hit Kovacic hard having cited the Frenchman as the reason he stayed in Spain last summer.

Much like 12 months ago, Kovacic is once again being linked with a move away from Real with Juventus, Manchester United and Tottenham all understood to be tracking him.

His agent, Nikky Vuksan, has played down talk of a summer exit, insisting his client remains happy at his current club, although he did admit they would re-evaluate his situation after the World Cup.

He told Sportske Novosti: 'Kovacic made history with Real on Saturday [in the Champions League final] and two days later the media write about a Juventus offer!?

"We haven't thought about leaving Real or interest from other clubs.

"But, the summer is long and who knows what can happen after the World Cup.

"Also, it is a compliment to Mateo that every summer there are rumours about how the biggest clubs want him, even though he is not in Real's XI."
