Lanzini sets sights on competitive return in 2019

West Ham star Manuel Lanzini has denied reports claiming he will miss all of next season and revealed his aim is to be playing by 2019.

Lanzini enjoyed another good campaign with the Hammers this past season and his impressive performances looked set to earn him a place in Argentina's 23-man squad for the World Cup in Russia.

However, just days before the major tournament, the 25-year-old attacking midfielder suffered torn ligaments in his knee and was ruled out of his country's quest for glory.

Recent reports claimed the former River Plate youth star was experiencing complications after undergoing surgery and would, therefore, be ruled out for the entire 2018/19 Premier League season.

But Lanzini has responded to these rumours and insists his goal is to be playing football at the start of next year.

"Some English media have said that my injury will make me miss next season, that there were problems with the surgery, none of this is true," he posted on Twitter.

"The surgery went really well. Although I don't want to set a date, I expect to be ready to play at the beginning of 2019. Thank you."
