Herrera set for contract talks

Ander Herrera has been told his ongoing contract confusion at Old Trafford will be discussed in the next few weeks.

The Manchester United midfielder is out of contract next year and has been waiting for a number of months for the powers-that-be to come up with a new proposal.

The Red Devils have an option to extend Herrera's deal by a further 12 months to avoid the risk of the player being able to talk to other clubs about a potential free transfer in January.

The Spaniard wishes to remain at the club and his camp have made it clear they want to sit down and discover what United's own plans are for the feisty 28-year-old.

United are keeping their cards close to their chest as they concentrate on the rest of this window, having already recruited £50 million Brazil midfielder Fred from Shakhtar Donetsk last month.

Herrera has travelled to Los Angeles with the rest of Mourinho's squad and the Portuguese tactician is also understood to have recently taken the player aside to tell him he still retains his confidence.

The former Athletic Bilbao man is on a hefty contract, believed to be worth around £120,000 per week at the Theatre or Dreams, which will certainly be a consideration for the money men in light of his restricted playing time last year.
