The Manchester United winger still wants to quit but is running out of time to seal a move before the transfer window closes on August 9.
The Red Devils have stated they are determined to keep hold of the France international and are planning to take up their option to extend his deal by a further 12 months, with just a year remaining on his present contract.
And Martial's living arrangements also remain up in the air at present, having initially planned to move into an apartment in the city centre on a short-term rental just a few weeks back.
The 22-year-old's partner is due to give birth to their second child and has decided to stay put at his rental place in Cheshire for the time being.
That has some at United questioning if the former Monaco player and his camp are simply biding their time and are aware of a concrete bid in the pipeline.
German giants Bayern Munich are especially keen, with Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain also interested observers.
United, however, still insist they are calling the tune and it would take an offer far in excess of the £50m outlay they parted with to sanction Martial packing up his possessions and permanently heading for the exit.
