De Jong has been attracting serious interest from English outfit Tottenham Hotspur and there are reports claiming Spurs had a £40million-plus offered rejected by de Godenzonen.
The 21-year-old has been making huge waves in the Eredivisie since establishing himself in the first team at the start of the 2017/18 season and he was handed his full international debut for the Netherlands in Sunday's 2-1 Nations League defeat to France.
It seems only a matter of time until the midfielder secures an exit from the Johan Cruyff Arena but Wijnaldum, who left PSV in 2015 to join Newcastle before then making the switch to Liverpool, has warned his compatriot off a move at this stage of his career.
"He is doing very well now, but we have often had Dutch players who first played very well, but later became less," he told Dutch outlet De Telegraaf. 'Often it is said: he can do this and that he can become so good. Frenkie is 21 years old, anything can happen.
"Maybe he also gets a lesser period if he switches abroad, you also have to look at how that will work out. For now it is good. We hope as a team and actually as the whole of the Netherlands that he will continue to develop."
