Southampton v Bournemouth Team News

Southampton will be forced to do without winger Moussa Djenepo for Friday night's Premier League match against Bournemouth.

The 21-year-old Mali international is set to miss out on the encounter at St Mary's due to what has been reported as a muscular problem.

Nathan Redmond is close to a return from his ankle injury, so could come back into contention for the all south-coast affair.

Defender Kevin Danso is available again having missed the 1-0 win at Sheffield United through suspension.

Meanwhile, Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe reported no fresh injury concerns following the 3-1 victory over Everton, when midfielder Lewis Cook made a welcome return from his long-term knee problem.

Summer signing Lloyd Kelly (ankle) and defender Simon Francis (knee) have been stepping up their rehabilitation, along with Dutch winger Arnaut Danjuma (foot).

Charlie Daniels (knee), Dan Gosling (hip), Adam Smith (hamstring), David Brooks (ankle) and Junior Stanislas (knee) all continue their own recovery.

Both teams go into Friday's contest with seven points from their first five games and even have the same minus-one goal difference.

There has been little to choose between these two teams in the past, with four of their past five meetings ending up in a stalemate.

This fixture last season was a high-scoring affair but still the spoils were shared in a 3-3 draw at St Mary's.

Saints have lost just one of their eight Premier League encounters with the Cherries and have not lost against their Eddie Howe's side at home in the top flight.

Southampton provisional squad: Gunn, Soares, Yoshida, Vestergaard, Bednarek, Romeu, Ward-Prowse, Boufal, Hojbjerg, Adams, Ings, McCarthy, Danso, Stephens, Bertrand, Valery, Armstrong, Long, Redmond.

Bournemouth provisional squad: Ramsdale, S Cook, Ake, Stacey, Rico, L Cook, H Wilson, Billing, King, Solanke, C Wilson, Boruc, Simpson, Mepham, Surman, Lerma, Ibe, Fraser.
