Steve Bruce hopes Joelinton can find his feet in the Premier League

Steve Bruce hopes Joelinton is finding his feet in the Premier League after scoring his first goal in 10 months.

The Brazilian striker completed Newcastle's 3-0 win over Sheffield United on Sunday (21.06.20) and Bruce hopes that the he can kick on after the strike.

The Newcastle manager said: "When somebody wants to achieve something and wants to do well, we all want him to do well, staff, players, everybody around.

"He's a really genuinely good lad and he gives his all for the team, so once you keep doing that and you're a team player like he is, then you're going to get the respect of everybody.

"We're all just delighted for him that he's managed to score a goal and hopefully, hopefully, hopefully - that's now two or three he's got over the last few weeks."

Bruce, 59, added that the Premier League's coronavirus shutdown had been challenging for Joelinton, who signed for £40 million from German side Hoffenheim last summer.

The former Hull City boss said: "He personally has suffered in the lockdown more than anybody. He's had no family here, no friends, holed up in an apartment somewhere, so it's been really, really difficult for the kid, so I'm delighted for him because he's a really genuinely good pro and he can only get better."

Bruce added that he side aren't quite safe from relegation danger, even though they are 11 points clear of the drop zone with just eight matches left.

He said: "We can't take anything for granted because you never know. The points return with eight games to go... I can't be more pleased."
