Phil Foden pleased with performance against Burnley

Phil Foden feels that he put in his best performance for Manchester City in their win against Burnley.

The 20-year-old midfielder hit a brace in City's 5-0 victory and he feels that it was his best display for the Premier League club.

Foden told Sky Sports: "It's always good to play, score goals and enjoy your football.

"I'm happy with how the team are playing at the moment, we are looking sharp and I hope we can continue that into the next games.

"I think that was my best game in a City shirt. I'm still learning every day, I'm still young and have a long way to go but I am happy when I put in performances in like that."

City boss Pep Guardiola says that Foden's performance shows that he will be the ideal successor to legendary midfielder David Silva, who is set leave the club at the end of the season.

The 49-year-old coach said: "When David said it was his last year I told the board we have Phil, so we don't have to invest.

"It is difficult to find a replacement but (in Foden), we have a young Manchester City fan who every time he plays gives us something unique and special.

"In the next decade, or 15 years, he will be an outstanding player for us. I don't have doubts."

The comfortable victory means that City moved closer to securing a top-four finish, although whether they will play in the Champions League depends on the outcome of their appeal against their UEFA ban.

Guardiola said: "It helped us a lot with the first goal from Phil and the second one, so it's nice and we have a good advantage of fifth and we are so close next season to play in the Champions League."
