Spotify 'wants to stream live concert videos'

Spotify is reportedly looking at streaming concert videos.

The music streaming platform has already started to include some live event videos and recently unveiled tools to reserve concert tickets, and now the company could be taking things further.

According to Bloomberg, Spotify is said to have approached promoters regarding licensing rights to use live footage from musical festivals on the platform.

Spotify already has rights to premium music videos while its video podcast collection has been expanded, and it continues to explore new formats.

In terms of live concert videos, YouTube has seen success with its livestream of Coachella over the past decade, with millions of viewers around the world.

Meanwhile, last month Spotify announced its Reserve programme to offer gig tickets for "rea fans" subscribed to Spotify Premium wanting to see their favourite bands on the road.

They explained: "We’ll identify real fans based on factors like streams, shares, and other Spotify activity, and will also monitor the activity of Premium users to ensure these are real human fans and not bots.

"If you’re one of an artist’s most dedicated fans, you’ll have the opportunity to purchase two tickets during a dedicated window, typically around a day."

In theory, this means supposedly dedicated fans would get to buy tickets without the usual stress.

Spotify did warn that "there will be significantly more superfans than there are seats available on a tour, so not every fan will receive an offer".

Initially, the Reserved programme - which launches this summer - will be available to US users, who will need to have their location enabled and notifications turned on.

Spotify said: "Newly announced tours for select artists will be able to dedicate tickets to true fans through Reserved.”

They also confirmed that in the future, the feature will be expanded to cover "more tours of all sizes, including many of the most sought-after shows on the road".
