China unveils robotic police

China is getting a helping hand fighting crime with their robotic police.

The new robots were brought in to help manage tourists outside the National Museum next to Tiananmen Square.

They have been given the responsibility for helping visitors to "queue in an orderly fashion and cooperate with security inspections".

And whilst in operation, they can be heard saying: "Please produce your identification documents and do not push or shove."

There is hope these new robots will be able to assist police and reduce the pressures on their human counterparts.

It comes after the world's first operational police robot was unveiled at the Gulf Information Security Expo and Conference in Dubai.

Brigadier-General Khalid Nasser Al Razzouqi, Director-General of Smart Services with the Dubai Police said in a statement: "The launch of the world's first operational Robocop is a significant milestone for the Emirate and a step towards realising Dubai's vision to be a global leader in smart cities technology adoption.

"With an aim to assist and help people in the malls or on the streets, the Robocop is the latest smart addition to the force and has been designed to help us fight crime, keep the city safe and improve happiness levels. He can chat and interact, respond to public queries, shake hands and offer a military salute."

And Dubai Police will be using autonomous miniature police cars to keep the streets safe.

Major-General Abdullah Khalifa Al Merri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, added: "Dubai Police are keen to get the latest technology to fight crime. We always search for the best technology to serve our police work for a safer and smarter city. We seek to augment operations with the help of technology such as robots. We aim for streets to be safe and peaceful even without heavy police patrol."
