Jaguar Land Rover test autonomous vehicles

Jaguar Land Rover are testing their autonomous vehicles on British roads.

The car manufacturer have started trialling their self-driving cars in Coventry as they work to get the vehicle to talk to the roadside infrastructure it is travelling on.

From these trials, they want to work out how best to replicate human behaviour and reactions for autonomous vehicles.

Nick Rogers, executive director of Product Engineering, said: "Testing this self-driving project on public roads is so exciting, as the complexity of the environment allows us to find robust ways to increase road safety in the future. By using inputs from multiple sensors, and finding intelligent ways to process this data, we are gaining accurate technical insight to pioneer the automotive application of these technologies. Jaguar Land Rover is proud to be a leader in collaborative research projects for autonomous and connected cars. We are supporting innovative research that will be integral to the infrastructure, technology and legal landscape needed to make intelligent, self-driving vehicles a reality within the next decade."

It comes after the company unveiled their new artificial intelligence steering wheel will be able to carry out "hundreds of tasks".

They shared: "This steering wheel concept lives in your home and becomes your trusted companion. Sayer is the first voice-activated artificial intelligence (AI) steering wheel that will be able to carry out hundreds of tasks. Sayer could signal your membership of our on-demand service club. A club which offers either sole ownership or the option of sharing the car with others in your community. Imagine a future of autonomous, connected and electric cars where you don't own a single car, but instead call upon the vehicle of your choice where and when you need it. That's a future vision Jaguar Land Rover is exploring with Sayer, the connected steering wheel that could be the only part of the car you own."
