Amazon Alexa goes musical with upgrade

Amazon Alexa's are getting a musical upgrade.

The popular piece of technology was upgraded to include routines last year which allow the device owners to string together a series of actions that kick off with a simply command, and included support for news, weather and traffic.

But TechCrunch report that Alexa can now play favourite music, podcasts or radio shows in a routine too.

To start using the upgraded tech, an owner simply selects an artist, playlist, album or radio station from the music library or a support streaming service - including Amazon Music, Spotify, Pandora, iHeartRadio, Saavn, Deezer and TuneIn.

Amazon also reveal that owners can create a volume action to control the audio output of the device.

Not only can Alexa's new routine be used as a wake-up call, but it also includes soothing music for a night time routine that locks the door then plays sleep sounds.

A party playlist can also be used that puts smart light bulbs into a flashing disco mode or crazy colours.
