The social networking platform - which was co-founded founded by Mark Zuckerberg - has announced that a match-making feature is to launch "soon".
Speaking at his firm's annual F8 developers conference in San Jose, California, Zuckerberg shared: "There are 200 million people on Facebook who list themselves as single. And if we are committed to building meaningful relationships, then this is perhaps the most meaningful of all."
Zuckerberg, 33, explained that the opt-in dating service would centre its attention on "real long-term relationships, not just hook-ups", adding that it would exclude existing friends from potential matches.
He announced: "We have designed this with privacy and safety in mind from the beginning."
Last week, meanwhile, Facebook chief technology officer Mike Schroepfer conceded that the company was slow to understand the potential dangers of its targeting tools.
The Internet Research Agency, a Russian-based troll farm, produced fake news during the US presidential campaign in 2016, and Schroepfer recently confessed to being bothered by the issue.
He explained: "It is a terrible idea that a nation state is using our product to interfere in a democratic election by masquerading as citizens of the US. We were slow to understand the impact of this."
What's more, Schroepfer promised to make political advertising more transparent moving forwards.
Despite this, the Facebook chief admitted that there is no obvious solution to the problem.
He said: "You can mute an ad from a specific advertiser, and there are a set of controls of your basic interests and preferences that you can change or remove."
