Skype chat is now encrypted

Skype chat conversations are now end-to-end encrypted.

The brand announced back in January that it will testing out the method, which secures communication and prevents third-parties from accessing data, using Signal Protocol by Open Whisper Systems and it proved a huge success as the feature is now available on iOS, Android, Linux, Mac, and Windows Desktop.

However, the end-to-end encryption won't be automatic as users will need to initiate it by selecting "New Private Conversation" from the compose menu or the recipient's profile and then the recipient will have to accept that all calls and messaged will be encrypted end-to-end until the conversation is terminated.

However, according to The Verge, there seems to be a slight downfall as users can only participate in one private conversation per device at a time.

The private conversation can be switched to another device, but anything sent and received will be tied to whatever device is currently being used in that mode.
