Huawei vow to become number one phone manufacturer

Huawei believe their new P30 and P30 Pro smartphones can "help push them to become number one".

The Chinese firm recently overtook Apple as the second-largest manufacturer behind Samsung, but they believe they have what it takes to knock the latter of the top spot.

Speaking at the P30 launch in Paris on Tuesday night (26.03.19), Walter Ji, CEO of Huawei's Western Euopean consumer business, said: "The Mate 20 Pro and P20 Pro helped bring smartphones to the next level.

"The P30 and P30 Pro bring better user experience in battery life and camera power that we think can help us push to become number one."

Huawei showed their intent to topple Samsung when they launched the Mate X last month to rival the South Korean firm's Galaxy Fold.

The device was unveiled at the MWC 2019 conference in Barcelona, Spain, where it was revealed the smartphone will cost an eye-watering £2,000.

The major difference is that the Mate X has a visible screen on both sides when it is bent.

Just like the Fold, it is able to fold out into a tablet size and fit into the user's pocket.

The Mate X has an 8 inch flexible OLED display right across the gadget.

When it is unfolded it is 5.4mm thick - much thinner than most tablets.

They've also upped their charging game with the 55W SuperCharge system, which is able to be 85% charged in 30 minutes.

The device also comes with 5G and Huawei claimed its the fastest foldable device in the world.

In terms of price, it comes in at £200 more expensive than the Fold.

The Mate X is due to start shipping around August time.
