According to a new report looking at the 31 most popular and most pirated shows of 2018 - including the likes of 'Stranger Things' and 'Westworld' - HBO's fantasy epic was amongst the worst for malware, alongside 'Arrow' and 'The Walking Dead'.
As revealed by security company Kaspersky, fake episodes of 'Game of Thrones' made up for almost one fifth (17 percent) of malware, while the first and last episode of each season were the worst.
This is particularly interesting given that there were no new episodes of the show last year, meaning it could be even worse after the eighth and final season launches this month.
The report also notes that 'American Horror Story' actually did the most damage, with each malicious file reaching an average of three viewers.
Meanwhile, "Not-a-virus:Downloader" and "Not-a-virus:AdWare" were the two most popular pieces of malware.
For the study, Kaspersky tracked each of the 31 shows and their appearance on piracy and torrenting sites, with 126,340 cases found.
The data came from millions of worldwide volunteers sharing cybersecurity data with the company.
