Although the company's major focus is its online streaming platform, physical rentals of DVDs and Blu-rays still bring in a lot of money with a million discs shipped each week, and a major milestone has been hit.
Taking to Twitter, Netflix revealed this week: "The most heartfelt thank you to our incredible members that have been with us for the past 21 years of DVD Netflix.
"Five billion discs delivered is a huge milestone and we owe it all to our amazing members and team members."
According to Entertainment Weekly, a copy of 'Rocketman' was the film to help the company to the huge figure, with the Sir Elton John biopic available to rent but not to stream just yet.
Just over two decades ago, the company got its start as a DVD-by-mail rental service, although over the past 10 years it has been pushing subscribers in the direction of its streaming service.
Last month, it passed the 150 million streaming subscriber total, but there are still 2.4 million rental subscribers who bring in roughly $157 million in revenue for Netflix.
