The tech giant claim to have launched "the UK's fastest home broadband" today (30.09.19), with 100,000 homes across Southampton now able to benefit from the super-speedy service.
Jeff Dodds, Virgin Media's Chief Operating Officer, commented:
"By launching our hyperfast Gig1 services in Southampton today, we're marking the start of next-generation gigabit connectivity across our entire network at a speed and scale unmatched by anyone else.
"This service is more than 20 times faster than the UK's average broadband speed, meaning that households can do everything they want to do online, at the same time, without delay and are well set for whatever comes next."
The Gig1 broadband has a download speed of 1,104Mbps during peak times with an upload speed of 52Mbps.
Another major UK city is set to follow in the coming weeks.
A total of 15 million homes across the country will have the super-speedy service available to them by the end of 2021.
