EasyJet adds 14 new routes from Lisbon

EasyJet is adding 14 new routes from Lisbon.

The airline will be adding the new destinations taking off from the Portuguese capital city in the winter.

Jose Lopes, the country manager for EasyJet in the area said: “We are particularly happy to be bringing the A321neo to Lisbon which will contribute to making our operations more sustainable.

“Despite the challenging external environment, we've never stopped investing in Portugal in the last two years, opening a new base In Faro in 2021 and continuously launching new routes from both Lisbon and Porto throughout the period.”

The tickets for the new routes - which include Birmingham, Barcelona, Valencia, Marseilles, Toulouse, Zurich, Milan Bergamo and Marrakech - will go on sale from next month on 15 August.

The development will make the carrier the city’s second biggest airline after the Portuguese airline, Tap Air Portugal as it increases its capacity for seats by 61 per cent year-on-year to 1.75 million. The expansion will include three additional Airbus A321neo aircrafts, meaning they have 19 vessels at Lisbon airport.

Recently, EasyJet admitted the “unprecedented” and busy conditions at UK airports - such as London Heathrow, London Gatwick and Bristol - had cost them £133 million quarter loss amid the chaos caused by flight cancellations and such.

A spokesperson said: “The unprecedented ramp up across the aviation industry, coupled with a tight labour market, has resulted in widespread operational challenges culminating in higher levels of cancellations than normal.”

“This includes a step-change in ancillary yields, increasing 55% versus the same period in 2019, and a record profit of £16 million generated in the quarter by easyJet holidays which is on track to serve 1.1 million customers in the full year.

“EasyJet expects capacity to be c.90% of Q4 ’19 across our network of major European airports, with load factors targeted above 90%.”
