A study by Stannah, who develop stairlifts and other electrical mobility aids for the home, has revealed that those over 60 love being able to travel more as well as play games with their grandchildren and live life much more spontaneously.
The 1,600 people surveyed were asked what the best thing about getting older was, with the top answer being retiring and the second getting more choice over how to spend your time. Having more time for travel came in third place whilst going on more and longer holidays came in at sixth on the list. Not feeling tied down to one place also featured on the list as well as having more disposable income to do what you want.
Patrick Stannah, Managing Director of Stannah, said: "Having more time for yourself is such a valuable thing once you retire. But what's even more exciting is being able to reconnect with your family - especially with your grandchildren. Our second Silver Census found over-60s look forward to spending time with their children's children, whether it's taking them on outings or reading together. It is heart-warming to see such strong inter-generational links blossoming around both traditional activities as well modern communications channels."
